[Webinar] The Global Minimum Tax Rate

Events Details (Code: 210826LU-CEX)

To handle the disruptions caused by the digital economy to the traditional international taxing model, 130 out of the 139 member jurisdictions of the G20/OECD Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting jointly issued the “Statement on a Two-Pillar Solution to Address the Tax Challenges Arising From the Digitalisation of the Economy” (the Statement) on 1 July 2021.  The Two-Pillar Solution proposed a global minimum tax rate of 15% and a reallocation of taxing rights on in-scope profits for large multinational corporations. The Hong Kong government is also expected to reassess the potential impact of the Statement on the economy and tax revenue of Hong Kong with the main objective of maintaining the competitiveness of Hong Kong.

In this seminar, the speakers will cover the following topics:

  • Brief background for the BEPS 2.0 projects, including the perceived unfair profit allocation among jurisdictions that own the intellectual property rights and the market jurisdictions;
  • The key components of BEPS 2.0;
  • What impacts BEPS 2.0 would bring to the multinational corporations;
  • Key updates on the BEPS 2.0 developments; and
  • What does BEPS 2.0 mean for Hong Kong?
